The Macrosystem is the most distant environment from the child and include the most broad organizational values that shape the child's environment. Most notably, it encompasses cultural values and political and economic systems.

As Maxine's case worker, you found another state-employed Personal Support Worker, Nick, to help Maxine. After a week or so of working with Maxine and her family, it becomes clear that Nick has some unrecognized implicit biases against people with disabilities. Linda notices that Nick pays more attention to Tony and frequently dismisses Maxine's bids for affection. One time in particular as Tony was preparing lunch, Linda saw Tony completely ignore Maxine when she was trying to talk to him. Linda confides in you that she is worried that Tony may be neglectful when she is not around.

What would you recommend be done next?

Report Tony to your boss as being someone who may be capable of abuse and neglect and advocate for all Personal Support Workers hired through your office be screened for implicit and explicit biases towards people with disabilities.

Linda should talk to Tony and be explicit about how she wants Tony to interact with Maxine.
