Drought Mitigation
The summer months produce an extended dry period that has lowered the water levels in all the ponds.
In fact, ponds that were once permanent are now in danger of drying up completely, stranding the
fish, bullfrog tadpoles, and aquatic invertebrates in those waterbodies. The drought has also
decreased migration opportunities for bullfrogs due to the lack of humidity and dry soils. Given the
significant agricultural infrastructure in the area, it is possible to provide irrigation to these
ponds from nearby canals and waterways. Additionally, a new pond could be dredged, creating new
habitat for bullfrogs within the complex. These options are, however, expensive and labor intensive.
